Travel Distribution Summit Europe 2009: Day 1

Posted by: Francesco In: Internet & Web 2.0

As Day 1 of Eye for Travel’s conference ends, my head is full of new ideas and inputs.

The best speech of the day has undoubtedly been the one by Sandra Leonard from TUI Travel PLC, on how the company is reacting to consumers’ change of behavior.

Almost everybody is using the internet to find information about trips they’re planning, even those who won’t buy the trip online. Despite this broad internet usage, lots of consumers are disappointed with current online travel services.

TUI’s bet has been to offer custom tailored products, based upon users’ behavior on the website as well as previous purchase history. This allows TUI to generate a customized page on the fly, with tailored content, such as appropriate hotels and interesting texts, to the benefit of both SEO and the user. An approach shared by us at TripShake!

It was also very interesting to see how fast Russia is growing in terms of broadband penetration, at the moment concentrated in Moscow and St. Petersburg. A great opportunity TUI’s willing to exploit, again with tailored offers.

More about the conference is coming tomorrow and a full conference report later next week!
