Microsoft Hohm brings green awareness to US households

Posted by: Francesco In: Green

hohmI was recently invited by Microsoft to try out the new Hohm service, which is a clever way to locate energy waste and find solutions to reduce consumption. Hohm features also a community, where users can share their success stories and ideas on reducing CO2 emissions.

Initial setup is a time sink, as Hohm asks you lots of data about your home, such as year built, size, location, etc. At the end of this process, you’ll have a chart with estimates about your power consumption.

As Hohm knows where you live, it compares your consumption with your area’s average, highlighting your appliances that drain too much power.

Hohm looks like a great tool to raise awareness about power consumption and energy waste!

Unfortunately Hohm is currently available only in the US. You can register and submit your household data even if you live outside the US, but you’ll loose the benefit given by the comparative analysis.
